The President's Plaque Award:
Detroit Riverfront Conservancy
In less than five years after the Detroit Riverfront COnservancy's inception, a major transformation has occurred in the City of Detroit. Gone are the abandoned warehouses, parking lots and cement silos that marked the skyline—they have been replaced by a growing greenway, complete with a continuous Riverwalk, plaza, pavilions and parks. Thanks to the Conservancy's leadership and vision, nearly three miles of rejuvenated riverfront is now populated with walkers, joggers, cyclists and sightseers for the first time in Detroit's more than 300-year history. There is no question that Detroiters have embraced the RiverWalk as their own!
