The Farmers Market was begun in 1974 as part of a Farm/City Week event in Mt. Clemens. It has evolved into an attractive outdoor ongoing market. It is open from 7 a.m. until 2 p.m. each Friday and Saturday from May through November.
The market was started to build and strengthen relationships between urban and rural people and to give them a better understanding of each others' problems.Mbr />
At present, Master Gardeners volunteer to maintain the gardens around the market and to man an on-site information booth.
