Michigan Plaque Award:

City of Grosse Pointe Park Forestry Department
Brian Colter, City Forester

Ash Wood Utilization Grosse Pointe Park is losing hundreds of trees a year due to the emerald ash borer epidemic. The city wanted to dispel the common misconception that this wood is useless and needs to be destroyed. On the contrary, the wood is still viable. Also, milling diseased ash logs is an effective way to eliminate the threat of accelerating the spread of the disease since the infected part of the tree is removed during the milling process.
