Sault Ste. Marie City Wide Clean-Up Volunteers
Becky Bottrell—Planning & Development Office<
For the past ten years volunteers have helped beautify the community by picking up debris from the city roadways. The first clean-up had twelve participants and has grown over the years to as many as 240 volunteers. The city's Street Department assists with collecting bagged debris and Waste Management disposes of the litter. There is a picnic lunch following the clean up when volunteers are presented with a T-shirt to acknowledge their efforts. A drawing for other prizes also takes place. Area businesses donate items for the event and the Beautification Projects Fund covers the cost of the T-shirts. It is amazing to see so many volunteers take part in this community project year after year.
